Today Is Your
Treat
This
is yet another good treat for you. I am very privileged and honored
to
have
Kathleen Gage, CEO and founder of Turning Point,
Inc. and Maxwell
Publishing, a
bestselling author; an internationally
recognized Internet marketing
and
publicity expert; and an
award-winning keynote speaker.
Kathleen
is a highly results oriented business advisor who works
with speakers,
trainers, consultants, entrepreneurs and authors.
Her unique Street
Smarts
Marketing Series programs are
designed to help you achieve the business
results
you desire in the
most efficient, cost-effective way possible.
I
stumbled upon her website some time back. I wrote to Kathleen
to ask
for her
permission to publish one of her articles, and
she replied graciously.
Incidentally, she
is also very humble,
unassuming and friendly.
I always respect and am attracted to people
who have
strings of
credentials and qualifications like Kathleen and yet with
such
humble,
unassuming and friendly attitude. So needless to say, I will
not be
attracted to leaders who are successful but with cocky attitude,
no
matter how
much credentials they have :)
You
have my high respect, Kathleen
So
without further ado, lets bring on Kathleen Gage.
Sincerely
Gamy Rachel

1. Question:
Hi Kathleen,
thank you for agreeing to participate in this interview.
Could
you tell our readers how did you
start your coaching career
and why did
you pick (in my opinion) such a
challenging profession?
Ans:
Thanks Gamy.
Actually, I don’t call myself a coach.
Rather, I am a mentor.
I believe mentor
more fully describes what
I do with my clients. Over
the years I have had a lot of people who
have
come to me to guide
them in both their personal and professional
endeavors. I
didn’t set out to be
a mentor, but found it to be a
natural evolution of my business.
I get great
satisfaction in guiding others to fulfill their greatest purpose.
I like working
with people who are clear that they are ready to
move their business to
the
next level. I have little patience for people
who are full of excuses
as to why
they can’t accomplish something.
I suppose that has to do
with the fact that at
one point in my life I was one
of those excuse finding people. I had an
excuse
for just about everything.
And my life reflected this.
In my early twenties
I couldn’t manage to succeed at much of anything.
I was
fortunate enough to
have great mentors and spiritual teachers who
taught me the importance
of
taking responsibility for my actions,
thoughts and beliefs and being
accountable. Actually, I had some pretty
“tough
love” kind of people in my life
early on.
One mentor in particular taught me a great deal about
attitude and
belief.
Having been on
both sides of the fence I realize that often it takes
someone who is
willing to
“pull our covers” to go from a place of
being a
person who has very little
personal power to being
empowered in our life.
On all levels,
I like to work with “possibility thinkers.”
Much of
our success (or lack of
success) has to do with how we view
the world and our role in the
world.
2. Question:
I understand
that your unique Street Smarts Marketing Series
programs
are designed for people to
achieve the business results they
desire
in the most efficient,
cost-effective way possible.
Is
this for people who are just starting out
or for people who have
already
some experiences but are
stuck halfway?
Ans:
I have worked
with both, those just starting out in business and those
who have been
in
business for some time. However, I find that now
I prefer to work with
people
who have some “time under their belt” in
their
business. Primarily because I am
very focused in my approach
and those who are ready for intense
transformation
are a great fit for me.
By cost
effective that does not mean there will not be investments needed.
Cost
effective simply means high return for whatever investment
someone
makes. Often
those just starting out in business are working on
a shoestring budget
or they
want to do a lot for free.
I have several
different levels that people can find works well for them.
For those on
a very
limited budget, I have created lots of outstanding
information products
that
range in price from free to a few
hundred dollars investment.
As people find
they have a need for more one-on-one time with me,
the cost goes up
considerably.
For example, I have been working with
one client on his overall market
position
through his speaking, a book
we recently took to market and other
promotional
aspects.
The investment was quite hefty and yet, the results have been
outstanding.
So for him, cost effective means something different than
to
someone who is
on a very limited budget.
So in essence,
cost effective simply means high return for investment.
3. Question:.
What
are your views on building success with
taking coaching like your
Street Smarts Marketing
Series, and also adding the
mindset and
subconscious mind
training. Do you think this will help
the person
achieve the desired
success easier and faster?
Ans:
I am very much
a believer in the power of the subconscious mind.
It’s
amazing how powerful our
mind is. One of the clearest memories
I have of learning the power of
the mind
was when my father had a very
severe heart attack. He was in a coma for
nearly
a month.
We actually did not expect him to live.
During the time
he was an unconscious state there was a lot of activity
that took place
in his
hospital room. When he finally came around,
he was very disoriented and
was in
a state of confusion. He told my family
and I about being a spy, how a
famous
movie star was interested in him
and how there had been an earthquake
in his
hospital room.
We were convinced he lost his mind, but as it turned
out, for
the 28 days
he was in his coma the television set had been on.
The
reality he
created had to do with what he was absorbing on a
subconscious level
while he
lay in his hospital bed.
I’m happy to
say he recovered fully from the ordeal. He just celebrated
his 80th
birthday.
What I took
away from the experience was how important it is to be
diligent about
what we
surround ourselves with whether it be the music
we listen to, the shows
we
watch, the conversations we have and
the people we surround ourselves
with.
Everything has an impact on
our thinking. It is essential to be aware
of this
and make appropriate
choices for what we want our life to be like.
Granted, there
are some things we have no control over. Yet, we do have
control over
how we
respond to situations. The more we understand how
powerful our mind is,
the
more we will likely be aware of what we
surround ourselves with.
4. Question:
Do
you believe that our thoughts and
subconscious mind has a
lot to do
with how we will progress
in life?.. of course coupled with taking
action
and taking up coaching
sessions ?
Ans:
Yes, most
definitely. Not only are the thoughts we have important,
the action we
take is
equally important. I believe the thoughts we have
can have a powerful
impact on
the actions we take.
I think a lot
of people are being misguided to believe all they have to do
is think
about
what they want and it will miraculously appear.
I believe you have to
have
correct thoughts, but you also have to take
action behind the thoughts.
So many
people are buying into the belief
that you can sit in your living room,
think
about what you want
and “poof!” there it is.
In my world there
is action that must accompany the thought.
Granted, the thought will
usually
direct the action, but without the
action the thought can lead to a lot
of
frustration.
It’s about
taking a leap of faith in some cases. Take the action, let go of
the
outcome
and hold the vision.
On the flip
side of not taking any action are those people who take so
much action
that
they don’t let things unfold in their proper time and place.
I once heard that
“God’s delays are not God’s
denials.”
Sometimes we want results so quickly that
in fact, we may not
be emotionally, spiritually, or physically ready
for what
we
think we want or need.
It is about
having the thought, taking the actions that are necessary
and keeping a
sense
of serenity as we move forward.
5. Question:
Can
you share with us how did you develop
such tenacity and
“never
say die” attitude in your
personal life and business?
Ans:
Well, as I
mentioned, there was a time when my life wasn’t working
too
well. As a matter
of fact, I ended up without a roof over
my head at one point. I think
that was
a very important experience
for me to go through. I had a difficult
time
connecting the fact that
my thoughts and actions had ended me up where
I was.
Again, through the guidance of some wonderful mentors I was able
to
more fully
take responsibility for my life.
What I realize
is I can choose day by day what I want my life to be like.
I
don’t know if it’s
a never say die attitude as much as one of gratitude.
It is in the
gratitude
for what I have that more seems to come to me.
I also realize
that we are on this earth for a specified period of time.
What we do
with that
time is our choice. So to me, business is kind
of a game I play. I take
it very
seriously and yet, it’s about seeing how
far I can push the
envelope.
Today I am
having experiences that at one point I only dreamed of.
A lot of it has
to do
with the types of risks I am willing to take.
I teach this to my
clients too.
Decide what you are willing to do to make
your dreams a reality. Before
you
know it, what was once frightening
becomes second nature and
comfortable. That
is when it is a great time
to stretch to the next level. And the next
and the
next.
6. Question:
Do you have
any recommendations for our readers to read?
Ans:
Oh yes. I
am an avid reader. I often have 4 or 5 books going at one time.
One of
the best
books I read many, many years ago is called,
“The Magic of
Believing.” It is
all about the power of belief.
Recently, we
published a book called,
“What Can a Dentist Teach You about
Business, Life and
Success,”
by Dr. Joe Capista. Dr. Capista covers a lot about
running a
successful
business as well as the power of thoughts, beliefs and
actions.
I
would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about both
the
pragmatic
side of business as well as the spiritual side
of business and life.

7. Question:
If you have
one important thing to tell us.. what will it be ?
Ans:
Realize
that we are only here now. It is about the here and now. Give life your
all,
live with gratitude and passion and realize, you can make a difference
in the
lives of others. Your day-to-day choices will determine your level of
happiness. Often, we can create so much good by what we do for others
in a very
simple way.
Life can be
tough a lot of the time and yet, your attitude, level of contribution
and
beliefs will make it either an unbearable experience or one where you
say,
“Hmmm, this thing called life is quite a kick in the pants.
What a great
experience it is. Thank you God. Thank you for the people in my life
and the
experiences I am having.”
Thank you
Kathleen, it's been my pleasure and privilege to have this interview
