Interviews With Great People 7

Today Is Your Treat

I am so privileged, honored and excited to have Tina Su of
Think Simple Now.com to participate in this interview.

I came to know about Tina Su while participating Blog Carnivals'
articles submission some time back. I took noticed of Tina, because of
her blog's rich contents, and also because of her sweet and cheerful
spirit. I also noticed that she is one diligent and consistent blogger.
I enjoy reading her posts, and because I have
subscribed to her blog's RSS feed in my Google reader, I know when
she publishes her new post.

So one day, she stopped publishing her post. The last post I noticed
was on the 25th December 2007. After a while, I suddenly asked
myself this question. "Wonder how is Tina, she has stopped posting"
You know what the mind can do? It really connects to the thing you
think about sometimes. "Bang" the next day, she messaged me.

I was thrilled to hear from her, and also shocked too. Because this
is the first time I heard from her after I thought about her the day
before. Isn't our minds powerful?

So we connected, and I invited her to participate in this "Great People"
interview, and she graciously accepted. So without further ado, lets have Tina.

Sincerely
Gamy Rachel

A little about Tina

"I am extremely passionate about personal development and
spiritual growth.
I have spent the past three years deeply focused on studying
the topics of success, fulfillment, happiness, motivation and
financial freedom. I’ve read countless books, attended seminars,
days of introspection and have put many of the principles into
practice. Several miracles have since popped into my life.

1. Question:

Hi Tina, thank you for agreeing to participate in this interview,
in the midst of your very busy schedule.
It's really great to have you here. I am truly honored.

Tina, is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself?
Things you may not have mentioned in your blog? Any juicy
secret you want to reveal? LOL..

Ans:

Good one. No actually, I’m pretty transparent. :)

Okay, here’s one: I plan to retire within a few years and spend my
time traveling, working on a photo book, and doing non-profit work.

2. Question:

Want to tell us how and why you started to take blogging so seriously?
How did you stumble into the blogging arena?

Ans:

I’ve always shyed away from blogs, including reading them. Up until August of last year, I had not been introduced to a blog. But I am always on a look out for meaningful and fulfilling projects. It might sound cliche, but it’s true. I’m always looking for ways to spend my time that brings out my passion and serves as a creative outlet, while contributing in some way. Photography is one of these outlets.

On September 22nd, I accidentally saw ZenHabits from a friend’s bookmark, read through an article on prioritizing your day, and instantly, I acted by implementing what I had learned. I was in awe at how energetic and inspired I felt. I was surprised to find an online audience for simple living and it struck me that I needed to share some of the lessons I’ve learned. I instantly bought the domain name thinksimplenow.com and started planning.

On September 27th, I launched the site as you see today.

3. Question:

Did you have any encounters with the Law of Attraction working for you before? What did you attract to you and how did you do it?

Ans:

All the time. I have too many examples, but here are two extreme ones:

  1. I wrote down very specifically in what I would like in an ideal mate and in a relationship. I’ve written various versions of this. But it was after I became exceedingly specific and practiced having faith, that was when he appeared on my door. I am now in a relationship with a man who fits everything on my ideal list.
    Dream come true, literally.
  2. Several years ago, I was coming back from Palm Springs from a weekend long seminar on Life Wisdom and Wealth Mindset, I learned that my circle of friends was crucial in the direction I progressed. If I wanted to be a millionaire, then I wanted to be surrounded by them. This sounds silly now, but at the time, I was very much focused on money.

While on the flight, I’ve written down my intention to meet and be surrounded by self-made millionaire friends from whom to learn from. I then closed my eyes and visualized a vivid scenario so that I could feel the feelings (I will expand on this on my blog at some point).

After I landed, I met a couple at the luggage claim. We started talking and they offered to give me a ride home. I gave them my card before leaving. The husband’s company ended up being a client of mine for user-experience consulting work. I later learned that they were successful pharmaceutical entrepreneurs, who had bootstrapped their way to millions. He became my first mentor.

Later that week, I met two others like the couple from completely different industries. I knew that these encounters were the result of my intentions.

4. Question:

You seem to be very up beat all the time, how do you maintain such
positive and full of zeal attitude ? Any tips for us?

Ans:

A lot of practice and a genuine desire to remain happy and explicitly seeking something positive from all situations. It helps to let go a little, once I started letting go of the need to control everything and expecting everything to turn out a certain way, I realized that life isn’t that bad and that all problems are mind created perceptions. We have choices, it may be tough at times to adjust how we feel, but we do have choices.

5. Question:

You have mentioned what you love to do. Do you have things that
you totally can't stand to do, in another word "hate" to do?

Ans:

Exercise is something that I find challenging. And I’m working hard towards incorporating it into my life. Despite being skinny, I’m not a very fit person. I would have a hard time running the Amazing Race for example. :)

6. Question:

You have a very high traffic and comment-rich blog, was it always
such? Can you share with us some tips to have that?

Ans:

It wasn’t when I started. When I started, I had about 30 hits a day and 2 comments, from my boyfriend and other friends. I got everyone I knew and their mother to subscribe and had a shiny 36 subscribers. Beyond that, I had to work for it. But it gradually grew.

My focus had never been to get more comments, it was always to answer the question how can I generate valuable enough content such that people will want to stay and come back? I started on this path and continued to re-ask the same question with each post. The comments just happened organically as traffic started coming in.

In the earlier weeks, I visited many blogs in my niche and left comments. I participated in StumbleUpon and met other bloggers. This was how I was able to generate traffic back then.

I slowed this down significantly since. I’m still interested in meeting other bloggers, but I’ve cut back significantly. I don’t really read other blogs for example, unless it was emailed to me directly from a friend or I saw it linked somewhere. The only blog I read and comment-on regularly is ZenHabits.

Thank you once again Tina. I appreciate your time and your
friendship. So glad to know you. To learn more about Tina Su
